Life is full of special moments and unique holidays that allow us to pause and reflect on the things that matter most — whether it’s showing appreciation for the people who enrich our lives, supporting the causes we care about, or simply taking a moment to enjoy the beauty of the world around us. Throughout the month of August, a variety of celebrations remind us to connect with others, celebrate love, kindness and community, and take time for ourselves.
From honoring girlfriends to embracing the importance of individual rights, August offers an abundance of opportunities to spread joy and gratitude. Here’s a look at some of these meaningful days and how they can inspire us to live with intention and heart.
Girls help girls. Women support women. It is always a blessing when you meet your crew of sisters who treat you as a family.
August 1, the once-a-year opportunity to honor your lovely homegirls and bond with different special women in the world. Call your gal pals, then tell them how much you care and appreciate them.
We often go through a lot of difficulties in our daily lives: you may break up with your romantic partner, your favorite puppy will die one day, you may lose your job. No matter what you have been through, do not forget the circle of girlfriends who always stand behind you and support each other.
Therefore, spend a day with your favorite girlfriends to do some great things together in celebrating this annual holiday that is full of love.
Tonight is National Night Out, which is a great opportunity to get out and interact with people in your community.
National Night Out is a night of fun, food, games and community, and it is also an opportunity to bring the police and community together. Basically, tonight is a night to spread positivity and camaraderie.
Especially in the year 2022, there is so much going on around the country and around the world. With National Night Out, however, it is an opportunity to spend time with people in your neighborhood and surrounding communities, and it is a great opportunity to network as well.
As crime began to rise during the 60s, the National Neighborhood Watch program was concepted and to raise awareness, National Night Out was born.
Now, it is an opportunity to hang out with people in your area and gain an appreciation for both your community and your local police department. And while each municipality celebrates National Night Out a little differently, the important point is it is something that is celebrated all across the United States, so while you are out and about at National Night Out tonight, remember that there is still some unity in this world.
Did you know today is Assistance Dog Day?
Neither did I until recently. But, the more you know, right?
Assistance Dog Day is a day to raise awareness for assistance dogs and all they do for their human companions. When it comes to these furry animals, they truly deserve to be appreciated because they help out in ways that only dogs can. Certain animals have many positive effects on humans, and dogs are one of these types of animals.
That said, you may be wondering what types of service dogs exist. Well, according to dogster, there are at least 10 different types of service dogs, which are listed below:
Each of these 10 types of service dogs are trained to help someone in a different way, and there are so many important things that only they have the ability to do.
Of course, when it comes to training a service dog, there are certain personality traits that they should have, as it helps immensely in not only their training, but also when it comes to their ability to support someone.
Finally, with assistance dogs, there are certain breeds that are best known for their ability as a service dog, and these 10 best breeds are: Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds, Poodles, Boxers, Great Danes, Border Collies, Bernese Mountain Dogs, Pomeranians and Portuguese Water Dogs.
Now that you know a little more about assistance dogs and the fact that they have their own day to be honored, make sure you show your appreciation for them the next time you see one. You never know what someone is going through and how immensely their dog may be helping them.
Yesterday was Assistance Dog Day and today is Work Like a Dog Day. Coincidence? I think so.
For real though, Work Like a Dog Day is a great reminder to us all that it is good to take a moment and appreciate the diligent workers all around us.
For those of you who work extremely hard and have that extra sense of work ethic, then this day is for you. We celebrate you and know that a lot of companies could not function without people like you.
For those of you who would not necessarily put yourselves in that category, make sure you take a minute to appreciate the people around you who have that super strong work ethic. And trust me, this is not a knock on the people who do not fall under this category at all, but rather a little extra praise for the extra hard workers all around us.
Happy Work Like a Dog Day!
Death is inevitable. That’s why in Australia, they normalize talking about death and even devote an entire day to it.
Today, August 8, 2022, is Dying to Know Day, which is a day set aside by Australia to talk about the inevitable. They take this day to try and give people the ease of mind when it comes to death, as well as to have conversations about the type of death you might want to have.
It can also be a reminder to not take life for granted and to take a moment to all those in your life that have passed on.
Whether you agree with this type of commemorating holiday, it exists and is interesting nonetheless, and you can read more about this sensitive and potentially controversial day here.
Today is a great reminder to cowork with people. That’s right, it’s Co-Working Day.
And when we say cowork, we are not talking about being great coworkers toward your fellow colleagues. While we will always encourage you to treat the people around you with respect, today is not a day to celebrate being coworkers with someone.
Instead, Co-Working Day is a day to celebrate coworking with other people.
When it comes to coworking, you are working jointly with other people in different fields and/or work environments to complete some sort of task, such as a project. Co-Working Day was concepted back in 2005 to encourage people to come together in a creative atmosphere and put their minds together.
The first coworking space was founded by hackers back in 1995, but it has now evolved into workspaces where people in all different types of industries can come together as one.
Now, since COVID, coworking has expanded immensely, as many more people are working from home but do not necessarily like to work from home every day. They like to use creative hubs such as coffee shops and libraries to expand their minds and to work alongside other remote workers in other industries, and it is becoming infinitely more popular in 2022.
That said, coworking does not mean the same exact thing to everyone, but on this Co-Working Day, we should all be mindful that doing so can truly help expand our creative minds.
In a world where we are constantly in the go-go-go mindset, it is not always a bad thing to take a lazy day.
I am not saying that you should ignore everything completely, but what I am saying is that it is sometimes okay to put things off to take a bit of a rest. That is probably why National Lazy Day was invented, as it is a good reminder that we all have couch potato-ness somewhere deep down inside us.
Take this day to remember that when we do not take breaks, we are going to burn ourselves out, so the next time you get a chance, take a day for yourself and try to keep the tasks at a minimum. You’ve earned it!
Despite where you come from, moms should always receive love and gratitude toward their children all year around.
In Thailand, people celebrate Mother’s Day each year on August 12. It is the time for children to express their special thankfulness to their moms in the spotlight for the day. Most children often prepare jasmine flowers to give to moms, which represent purity and gentleness in Thai culture.
Mother’s Day is also a celebration for the Mother of all Thai people, Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. People often use theportrait of the queen with colorful lights in celebrating her birthday across the country.
Another important part for this day is distributing alms to monks as well as the people who are mostly in need.
We will never know what the future brings for us, so call your mom and say “I love you” to her right now.
Roller Coasters come in all shapes and sizes.
From a few small ups and downs to going 100 miles an hour while twisting upside down, there is a roller coaster for everyone.
And on this National Roller Coaster Day, we hope it’s a day that is a good reminder to everyone to go out and have a thrill.
Roller coasters have come a long way from the gravity rides that the Russians first built over 500 years ago to the coasters we see today, but the concept and their purpose have remained the same… to give people something that is fun, enjoyable and different. So, whether you are a thrill seeker or someone who likes to keep things basic, you are sure to find a roller coaster that is perfect for you.
Have an exhilarating day!
The responsibility to build a safe and healthy community environment falls on each of our shoulders.
A lot of nonprofit organizations put their energies into helping needy people or animal shelters to create a better society for us. Therefore, August 17 is recognized as the National Nonprofit Day, which highlights the significance of giving back to the local community.
According to the National Center for Charitable Statistics, there are approximately 1.5 million registered non-profit charities across the country. Without their endless contribution and donations, we could not have such a great community life we live now.
So, find some volunteer opportunities to distribute your effort and compassion to our society. Even if it is just a small thing, it still can make huge differences in this world. Happy National Nonprofit Day.
Nothing compares finding your true love in this world. August 18, the National Couple’s Day, offers each couple an opportunity to tell each other how much you love them in celebration of this romantic day.
Love has no boundaries, and it comes with different forms. Therefore, whether you have a opposite sex, same-sex or non-binary gender relationship, all the lovebirds are deserve to enjoy this holiday.
On this day, you do not need to prepare anything fancy. You can bring your partner in crime out for a date, or just do whatever things that make both of you feel comfortable and happy.
What’s important is that a couple live every moment to the fullest while creating bonds with each other on this special day. We hope everyone out there has a great National Couple’s Day!
Photography is an expression of human life and different culture, which reflects the spiritual pursuit of each photographer in a form of art.
The celebration of world photography was started in 1837 in France, which marked August 19 as the National Photography Day. Without the existence of photography and countless talented photographers, all the amazing views and art works will never last.
On this day, we give the privilege to every photographer who strives to document every moment in our daily lives. The meaning of photography is to capture beautiful things and share them with other people; thus making the world a better place.
We always put various photos for every story on our website, My FrontPage Story, whether it is about family, friendship or memorials. Our stories would never have turned out the same without those lovely pictures. Happy National Photography Day!
Today is the perfect day to be an angel to someone.
Be An Angel Day was started in 1993 and was created to be a reminder to become someone’s “guardian angel” on earth, and it has been celebrated ever since.
From all gestures big and small, go out and be an angel to someone. Lend a helping hand and be there for someone in any way they need help.
Being an angel is as simple as extending your hand to someone who has fallen, so do something today that makes you feel angelic.
Kobe Bryant was not just one of the greatest basketball players of all time, but he was a global phenomenon and icon and an advocate.
He also had his life cut very short when he was involved in a fiery plane crash over two and a half years ago. Since his passing, August 24 has become widely regarded as Kobe Bryant Day (it represents the two numbers he wore in the NBA – 8 and 24).
It is a day that represents the life, talent and inspiration that was Kobe Bryant, and it is a day where people remember something called the “Mamba Mentality,” which describes the unmatched work ethic Kobe Bryant put forth every day of his life. He was a beloved athlete from Philadelphia, and he was a Lakers icon.
On top of Kobe Bryant Day being a day to remember the accomplishments and life of Kobe Bryant, it should also be a reminder to appreciate and hug a loved one. Life is too short and should not be taken for granted, and today is a reminder of that.
So, go hug a loved one and remember the generational great that was Kobe Bryant.
It is a pain in the neck when we encounter arguments or disagreements with our loved ones. After all, we may still be mad with each other, or even build a gap between the two of us.
It is not easy to forgive someone after a heated argument. So, you can simply just kiss and make up with the person to repair the relationship, whether they are friends, family members or your partner. Do not feel ashamed or embarrassed when using this way to forgive someone.
As a result, August 25 turned into Kiss and Make Up Day for people to end their grievances.
This holiday was created by a woman, Jacqueline Milton, who wanted to fix the old relationships. No matter what kind of discontent you obtain in your mind, a strong relationship needs a bond to bridge the gap between one another.
Do not let the problem get worse. Just go kiss and make up with someone to rebuild trust and bring happiness together.
No two leaves of the world’s trees are alike, yet each person is unique and obtains universal human rights.
August 29, Individual Rights Day, was dated back to 1632 on the birth of an English philosopher John Locke, who was well-known as the “Father of Liberalism.” Locke first proposed that each human being has sovereign rights that should be under the protection of the government.
Later on, Dr. Tom Stevens, the founder of the Objectivist Party, became one of the supporters of Locke’s opinion regarding individual liberty and power.
This holiday is a celebration of Locke’s birthday while informing people to recognize their rights.
As the summer starts to get closer to the finish line, spending a whole day on the beach would definitely turn out as a great way to end the break with a bang.
August 30, National Beach Day, offers people a chance to get back to the beach and soak in the sunshine. This holiday was first started in 2014 to raise awareness of protecting the environment while having fun on the beach.
Get a group of friends together to go swimming, surfing and playing beach volleyball on this holiday. But do not forget to pick up all the garbage when you leave.
It is everyone’s responsibility to keep the beach clean and protect our beautiful home, the Earth.
As the days of August unfold, each holiday offers a gentle reminder to live with more mindfulness, appreciation and love. Whether you are spending time with loved ones, giving back to the community, or simply taking a moment for yourself, these celebrations bring us closer to the essence of what makes life meaningful.
Let these moments guide you to connect more deeply with the people around you, celebrate the beauty in everyday life, and recognize the impact we can have on each other. After all, every day is an opportunity to make a difference and show the world what truly matters.
