By day, Melissa Amerine is a high school teacher. She treats her students really well and is always a favorite among both students and parents. She gives it her all and teaches with heart and passion.
By night, Ms. Amerine is a phenomenal dog mom to two rescues. She has two dogs of different breeds and personalities, which can make it a challenge to most at times, but not to Melissa.
Tilly is a Golden Retriever who was rescued when she was a puppy. It’s been about two and a half years now since Melissa and Tilly found each other, and in that time they have formed an unbreakable bond.
“For a long time it was just the two of us,” said Tilly.
As for Molly, her story is a little bit different. It was not until this Bernese Mountain Dog was 5 years old that she was rescued from abuse. She bonded perfectly with her dog mom too, and if you’ve ever had the opportunity to meet Melissa, Tilly and Molly, you know they are the right matches for each other.
Tilly went on to say, “Now I have a mommy and sister, and I could never be happier.”
Molly also added, “I love my mommy and new sister with all my heart.”
“She takes them everywhere,” friend Phillip said. “She makes a lot of sacrifices for their happiness.”
Melissa opened her heart to them, and now they share the most special bond.
Other than school, Melissa is not seen very often without Tilly and Molly. She takes extra special care of them both, and it is a sight to behold when they are together.
Melissa showers her dogs with hugs and kisses, and she spoils them too. She feeds them well and makes sure they know they are loved.
“We love her because she always hugs and kisses us,” Molly and Tilly said. “She’s always giving us SMOOCHIES.” They also went on to say, “We have every toy and treat imaginable and we always get baths and haircuts.”
While many times it is dogs who give their humans smoochies, a lot of the time it is the other way around for Melissa and her pups.
They wait patiently for Mom to pick them up from daycare too. That is their favorite part of each day, as they get to spend time with their mommy again.
“We miss her when we go to daycare,” Molly and Tilly said. “She’s the BEST dog mommy. We love to go on walks with her and play with her. She buys new things and makes sacrifices for our happiness.”
Not a day goes by that Tilly and Molly are not shown love from Melissa. They both have a tremendous amount of love for her, as they know she respects them well.
Melissa treats them well too, and she is never afraid to nurse them back to health. She does not let them run roughshod either, as she has a way of calming them down when needed.
“Tilly was sick when she first got her,” Phillip said. “Molly has been a handful the entire time. Molly likes to bark at everything and Tilly likes to give attitude.”
There’s nothing this dog mom cannot handle, though, as she is the best there is. She saved Tilly and Molly both from potentially unbearable lives… or worse… and for that they are both super glad to call her Mom.
