There is something to be said about matriarchs with a lot of descendants. They are usually looked up to and loved beyond belief.
When it comes to Mary Duncan, this fact is no different. Better known as Nana, Mary has three children – Steven, Renea and Jeffery – nine grandchildren – Samantha, Alex, Haley, Ryan, Kylar, Kaleb, Kori, Bryan and Michael – and seven great grandchildren – Devon, Xander, Makenzie, Brooks, Aiden, Braylon and Cameron. All 19 of them love Nana with all their hearts, and they are not the only ones.
In fact, anyone who knows Mary appreciates her for all she brings to the table. She is a sacrificial, hardworking individual, and even in her retirement years she finds that same spunk to go along with her utter selflessness. She has such a big heart, and family is always her top priority.
“Mom is very loving and caring,” Steven said.
The personality she possesses is unmatched. Nana loves life and lives it to the fullest, and all the while she is making memories with her loved ones, she remains unapologetically her. She is genuine in every sense of the word, and she is never afraid to ruffle some feathers… or go to bat for her family.
“Nana speaks her mind and can discuss various subjects, and she is very protective of her family,” Steven said.
If you cross a line, Nana is going to let you know it. She always has been and always will be a mama bear to her entire family, and they are so grateful for this.
They are also grateful for her genuineness. Mary has always shown her family what it means to show your true colors and to never not be yourself, and this has gone a long way in shaping her entire family lineage.
“Nana is very loving, caring, upfront and will not hold back her feelings,” Mike said. “She will tell you how she feels whether you like it or not. She really enjoys seeing her family when time allows.”
As the years have gone by, one thing has remained constant: Nana. She has not changed and her mindset has always been family first, which means she has always done everything she could to provide for them and afford them the best lives possible.
“She is my mom and our Nana. We all love her,” Steven said. “She has never been financially secure, but has always purchased gifts for her family.”
Giving to others is a big part of who Nana is, and it is one of the many reasons why she is the amazing family woman she is. She is her family’s everything and their matriarch, and they all love her will the entirety of their beings.
“We all love you, Nana.” – your family
