Mielle Marquis is a loving mother, wife and friend who would do anything for her friends and family.
“If you are Mielle’s friend, you know you are loved and cared about,” her husband, Rob, said.
The couple met through mutual friends in 1993. Mielle lived in Washington, D.C. and Rob lived in Tempe, Arizona, and since it was before the Internet and email, they wrote many letters to each other. Luckily, they split the cost of an airline ticket and Rob flew to D.C. to see Mielle. Rob said they instantly fell in love.
“That first weekend we spent together in D.C. was one of the best weekends of my life,” Rob said, with a smile.
After the visit, they continued to write letters and ran up huge phone bills talking to each other until they decided to move together to Seattle. In 1995, they were married in a beautiful, intimate wedding with friends and family in Roche Harbor on San Juan Island off the coast of Washington.
They lived in Seattle for a few years before moving to Albuquerque, New Mexico and getting their master’s degrees at UNM. Then, they moved across the country and settled in Massachusetts.
The couple knew they wanted to be parents so the birth of their son, Brady was a wonderful blessing. Rob said that Mielle is an incredible mother to Brady.
“Mielle loves being a mother to Brady,” Rob said. “She will do anything she can for him to make sure he can excel at school and in life.”
Family is the most important thing to Mielle. She was a caring daughter to her recently deceased mother, Linda, her father, Tony, and her stepmother, Janice. She is very proud of her family, and every year, at Christmas time, she writes the best Christmas cards recapping the family’s year. Rob said the cards are labeled “must read” by many friends and family.
The family has a 12-year-old Golden Retriever named Coby who loves the entire family but is very protective of Mielle because she is his favorite.
Rob said that not only is Mielle incredibly caring, she is also THE most detailed person he’s ever encountered, which benefits her greatly in her job as the Director for External Relations at Northeastern Law School.
“Mielle goes above and beyond for friends, family and in her career,” Rob said. “She has an amazing impact on everyone she meets, including the graduates that she works with at NUSL.”
Mielle is a gifted writer with a great, sarcastic sense of humor. Rob jokes that you have to be on your toes when she is around.
She has such a sense of right and wrong and almost always does the right thing, Rob said, adding, “She is a person I try to be more like every day.”
“She is incredibly smart and funny,” Rob said. “Mielle is the kindest and most loyal person. She’s my true love. I knew it from the first moment I saw her. I knew I could trust her with my life.”
“Brady and I and our whole family appreciate everything Mielle does for us,” Rob said. “I am amazed by the positive impact she has on so many people. I love her with all my heart.”
