When Mike Schuman got down on one knee, Lindsey said yes – even if she wasn’t a fan of how she was currently dressed.
“She was not dressed for the proposal because she thought we were just going for a regular old hike,” Mike explained. “We still laugh about that today.”
For a couple that has the same sense of humor, their engagement story is par for the course.
Mike and Lindsey humorously named their first meeting and first date “The Tour.” They have smiled their way through days at Disney World and traded jokes through nights on cruise ships.
“We have the same sense of humor, but each of us think we are funnier than the other person,” said Mike. “We always try to keep each other laughing.”
The inside jokes and light-hearted memories have only increased over the years. It was over a decade ago that Mike and Lindsey tied the knot in Cancun, Mexico. Their marriage is as strong now as it has ever been, and Mike wants to show his wife a little extra appreciation this Valentine’s Day.
“I want Lindsey to feel special this Valentine’s Day,” said Mike. “I love her so much and am very lucky to share this life with her. She is the best mom and wife I could ask for.”
Lindsey was born in Fredericksburg, Virginia, on June 21, 1987. Her parents are named Kathy and Steve, and she has an older sister named Amanda.
Mike and Lindsey met at West Virginia University. Mike had already graduated, but he was visiting for a weekend and was lucky enough to meet and have an initial conversation with Lindsey.
“Our first conversation was about how she was going to move with her sister to the town I lived in,” Mike recalled. “We also talked about our first jobs out of school.”
From there, “The Tour” began. Mike could quickly tell that Lindsey was a good person and someone he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.
“She is very thoughtful and caring and reminds me every day that there are good people in the world,” said Mike. “She is very empathetic, thoughtful and kind. She’s always thinking of others and puts others before herself.”
Mike and Lindsey had their first child, Macie, in November 2014, and their second daughter, Willow, was born in August 2017.
“She is selfless and always takes care of all the little details with being a mom,” said Mike. “She thinks we don’t notice, but we do.”
As a working mother, Lindsey recently got a promotion in her work as a Contracting Officer. “We’re very proud of her,” said Mike.
When there’s a break in her busy schedule, Lindsey can be found relaxing with a good book, painting, watching movies, or taking walks on long trails.
Through it all, Mike has fallen even more in love with Lindsey than he was that moment he surprised her with a proposal.
“We’ve been married almost 11 years, and I just appreciate Lindsey so much,” said Mike. “She always puts others before herself and cares deeply for our family. She is very kind, loving, and a great partner.”
