‘You Complete Us’: The King family of six is who they are because of Chanel

They met at an auto shop. At first, Chanel was just another pretty girl Steve encountered. And to Chanel, Steve was just like every other guy who comes into the auto shop.

But then, they realized soon after that they were actually each other’s soulmates. It was not just another random interaction between a guy and a girl. It was the meeting of two people who would eventually mend into one.

So, after they decided to give each other a chance, their first date consisted of eating Mexican food while watching Mulan. It would foreshadow a lot of their relationship to this very day, as they are a movie-loving, wine-sipping couple.

The Kings also love going to concerts together and spending time with their four children, and it is just clear that they are right for each other.

In fact, when Steve was asked how he knew Chanel was the one for him, he said, “The moment I felt that I found a person that loved me more than I loved myself.”

Chanel loves Steve with all her heart, and he certainly reciprocates the feeling. And the reason he reciprocates the feeling is there is a whole lot to love about his wife. She has so many great qualities, and she is an individual who inspires many.

She is an absolutely astounding mother too. There is nothing she would not do for Jazz, Kalayah, Jamir or Khalil, and that is because she is a super sacrificial mother. Everything she has ever done is for the good of others, so it should not come as a surprise that she is the protective, compassionate and supportive mother that she is.

“When our children were young, Chanel did everything to ensure they were taken care of,” Steve said. “She battled through long nights and hectic days to put everyone else’s needs before her own.”

That’s the selfless heart in Chanel, and it is something that became infinitely more prevalent the moment she became a mother.

Motherhood is truly something Chanel was made for, as her instincts are through the roof. She is the kind of mother who is not just always there for her kids, but she is constantly teaching them.

She is a role model and someone they look up to each and every day. No matter what they are going through, they can step back and think of what their mom would tell them, and that helps make things all better.

“My mommy has taught me how to be strong,” Jaziah said. “There will be good days and bad days of course, but she has taught me whatever hardship I may experience, it will not last forever and I will get through it no matter the obstacle. Giving up was the easy way out and that was not tolerated whatsoever.”

Chanel pushes her kids in the best way possible. Not only in the fact that she encourages them to chase their dreams, but in the fact that she ensures they never give up. If you keep pushing through and see to the other side, you will be much better off for it.

Chanel is also the type of mother who wanted her kids to be themselves. She has encouraged them to always be genuine, and that independence is an important part of life.

“My mom has taught me to be who you are unapologetically,” Kalayah said. “She has taught me that everything in life has beauty in it. She taught me how to be the woman I am today.”

Life is also what you make of it, and Chanel has certainly made the most of hers. She is working in the medical field currently, and she is doing so while chasing her dreams of becoming a nurse practitioner. She is showing that you can achieve anything at any time as long as you put your heart and soul into it.

“She has also taught me I can do anything I put my mind to,” Jaziah added. “She never made me feel as if my goals or something I wanted to do in my life were unrealistic or silly. She has been a very supportive candidate in those times and for that I will be forever grateful. Love you, girl.”

Jazz will tell you each of her siblings feels the same way, as their mother has always been an encouraging mother.

She is an encouraging wife all at the same time, as many of the things she has taught her children, she has taught her husband. She is the type of wife who is always in Steve’s corner, and he is thankful for that.

“She makes me better by supporting my dreams and comforting my failures,” Steve said.

When she said, “For better, for worse” on their wedding day, Chanel really meant that. She meant every word of their vows, and she is proving that time and again.

“My mom is a great partner and has stayed down for the come up,” Kalayah said.

Not only is Chanel a great wife and mother, but a great friend as well. She is the type of friend who you can call upon at any point, and she is going to answer. She is going to be there for you in times of triumph and in times of need, and she is certainly steady and reliable.

“Chanel is caring and loyal,” Steve said. “She has a big heart.”

Chanel is also super genuine. She is not just someone who says she cares about you, she really does care about you. And she shows it.

“What makes my mommy good to others is her heart,” Jaziah said. “If she loves you or cares for you, she will do anything for you by any means.”

She does so by picking up the phone at any time of day, and by just being a listening ear.

“She’s the person you call on when you need to talk,” Kalayah said.

Chanel is certainly trusty, and something that really cannot be emphasized enough is her huge heart.

“I admire the fact that Chanel has the biggest heart of anyone I know,” Steve said.

There are so many things Steve admires about Chanel, and that is the reason he has been in love with her for a quarter century. She brings him so much happiness and joy, and she is his rock and his everything.
